About CNG Fuels

CNG Fuels develops, owns, and operates CNG refuelling infrastructure and sources 100% Renewable Biomethane (aka Bio-CNG) for its stations.

We are rolling out a UK wide network of reliable and convenient refuelling facilities to supply our customers heavy fleets.

Our Bio-CNG is biomethane 100% sourced from waste products including food, animal, and waste water. independently verified and approved by the Department for Transport’s Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO).

How we fuel our clients needs

Waitrose first moved into gas as a fuel for trucks in 2013, by running a fleet of 50 dual-fuel (gas and diesel) vehicles. On the back of learnings from the dual-fuel vehicles Waitrose ordered its first two dedicated Bio-CNG (running on 100% CNG) vehicles in 2015. A further 10 Bio-vehicles were ordered in 2016, another 64 in 2017/2018.

For us, operating dedicated gas trucks has transitioned from being a trial, to being ‘business as usual’, with positives on carbon reduction, driver acceptance and cost. Operating them has, in the best way possible, become boring.

Announced in late 2018 the John Lewis Partnership (operating the John Lewis and Waitrose retailers), announced that they will convert its entire 500-strong fleet of diesel delivery trucks to be powered by biomethane by 2028.

CNG Fuels has supported and continues to work with Waitrose and John Lewis as they transition to 100% renewable biomethane for their HGV fleet.

Awards and Recognitions

CNG Fuels has received numerous industry awards for our work in connecting to the LTS network and encouraging the take-up of biomethane by fleet operators.

The industry has also recognised our ability to supply 100% renewable RTFO-approved biomethane.

With all the focus on electrification, the low carbon combustion fuels might be overlooked. But it is vital to remember that Net Zero can be delivered in a number of ways. The LowCPV (Zemo Partnership) welcome genuinely zero (or even negative) carbon solutions which exist here and now and we must accelerate the uptake of these fuel solutions particularly in the more challenging operations such as heavy road vehicles, where they can best displace fossil diesel.

Our stations

Our public access station rollout provides customers with refuelling infrastructure that is convenient and reliable. These stations are located near the UK’s gas grid infrastructure and close to major transport routes.

We operate both the UK’s highest capacity CNG stations, including the UK’s first CNG refuelling station that is connected to the high pressure natural gas grid.

As our cites are supplied by the UK gas grid, customers can rely on uninterrupted availability of fuel 24/7 365 days a year, and our track record demonstrates 99.99% uptime accross the station portfolio.
